This is a short course of learning brought to you by the State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education, serving arts education across the nation through our members.

About This Course

In ARTS 124, Introducing the Media Arts Standards: Teaching Film Making, you will be encouraged to develop a curricular framework for applying the National Media Arts Standards to instruction in filmmaking. While acknowledging the interdisciplinary nature of film, the approach taken in this course will concentrate on filmmaking as artistic expression of media arts. This course includes:

      • an overview of the National Core Arts Standards

      • an examination of the methods media artists use to create and conceive, produce, respond, and relate context to works of film.

      • a self-study comparison of your current practice and curricular resources to the National Media Arts Standards.

By taking this course you will have the opportunity to reflect on how to apply these media arts standards to your curriculum, units, lessons, and assessments. You will begin to construct your own knowledge about standards-based instruction in media arts. You will gain both practical knowledge about filmmaking as well as conceptual knowledge about the National Core Arts Standards for media arts.
