Do you know how to set your child with ADHD for success in the classroom? Upon completion of the course, you will learn how ADHD affects learning and how to request support for child with ADHD in a school setting. 


About This Course

CHADD (the National Resource on ADHD) has developed this course to provide educational information and support to individuals and families who are dealing with ADHD and learning to navigate the challenges of ADHD across the lifespan. This self-paced course was modeled after CHADD's exclusive Parent to Parent: Family Training on ADHD program.

Throughout the course, family members will learn how ADHD affects learning, how to request support for your child, and about your child’s educational rights.

Parents will also have access to the CHADD ADHD online community, customized to promote collaboration, information sharing, and support to parents of children.

Beth A. Kaplanek, RN, BSN, Founder


Beth Kaplanek is a past president of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), served as a volunteer for the nonprofit organization for more than twenty years. Kaplanek on parenting issues and solutions related to ADHD to both national and international audiences. She is the mother of an adult with ADHD.

Mary Durheim, Founder


Mary Durheim, an educational consultant, is a past national president of CHADD. Specializing in Section 504 and disability issues, Durheim works with school districts at the local, state, and national level. A trained mediator, Section 504 hearing officer, and behavior strategist, she is active in numerous county and state interagency organizations. She is the mother of two adult children with ADHD.

Terry Illes, PhD, Founder


Terry Illes received his doctoral degree in social psychology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and practiced as a school psychologist in the Jordan School District. He was well known for his expertise working with children with learning and behavioral problems. Terry was a board member of CHADD. He spoke to teachers and families across the nation to help them understand the unique challenges of ADHD.

Linda P. Smith, Founder


Linda P. Smith is a former high school English teacher and a parent advocate. As a CHADD volunteer for almost thirty years, she has served as a national board member, local CHADD coordinator, and presented workshops on ADHD for educators, parents, mental health professionals, and health care providers. Smith is the parent of five children and the grandmother of many grandchildren, some whom have been diagnosed with ADHD.

This course was modeled after CHADD's exclusive Parent to Parent: Family Training on ADHD program. The program was remodeled into a self-paced course with the support, expertise, and guidance of a number of people, including CHADD staff and volunteer experts.
